Dehesa de Campoamor is a small coastal village at the southern end of Orihuela Costa, with pine woods and three beaches. It is about a 15 minute drive from Lago Rosa Apartment.
The name comes from the poet Ramón de Campoamor, who bought the estate in 1854 and renamed it from Dehesa de Matamoros. It is still a small village, with fewer than a thousand permanent residents in the latest count we found, and the pines make it greener than much of this coast.
Playa de Campoamor is over 500 metres of fine sand with clear, calm water. In high season there is sunbed and parasol hire, lifeguards, water sports and even an inflatable water park on the sea. A large car park is a few minutes' walk away, which is welcome on this coast. This is our suggestion if you are going with children.
North of the village come Playa de la Glea and the bays of Aguamarina. The high-rise at Barranco Rubio dates from the 1960s and 1970s, so do not expect untouched coast, but you can expect easy, friendly beach life. Golfers will find the Real Club de Golf Campoamor inland.
Thursday market
Every Thursday morning on Calle Fuego in the Aguamarina district, shared with Cabo Roig.
Good to know
Hire, lifeguards and the water park are only there in high season. From the large car park it is a few minutes' walk to the sand.
