Town

Torrevieja is a town of sea and salt, with a promenade, a harbour with museum ships and the biggest market in the region. The centre is about a 10 minute drive from Lago Rosa Apartment.

Salt built this town, and it still shows. The Museo del Mar y de la Sal explains how people worked at sea and on the salt lakes, including the salt boats that are a local tradition. At the quay by Marina Salinas lie the submarine S-61 Delfín and the patrol boat Albatros III, which you can look round inside. You need to be at least 1.15 metres tall for the submarine, and it stays shut in rain and on public holidays. Check current times at turismo.torrevieja.es.

Evenings are best spent by the water. Paseo Vista Alegre, between the harbour and the centre, has a pergola, gardens and monuments to the singers and musicians of the habanera, the music the town is known for. The Dique de Levante runs more than a kilometre out to sea. Further north along the coast stands the Torre del Moro, the old watchtower that our guest book says you can climb.

With children, head to Parque de las Naciones and its play equipment or to the Aquopolis and Flamingo water parks. The little train to the pink salt lakes also leaves from the harbour and the promenade.

Friday market

Every Friday morning on Avenida Delfina Viudes, the biggest market in the region, next to Aquopolis and close to the N332.

Shopping and going out
