- Sight
The Torre del Moro is an old watchtower on Cabo Cervera, in a park with a viewpoint over the sea, and it is about a 15 minute drive from Lago Rosa Apartment.
From the late Middle Ages, lookouts on this headland watched the sea. The tower was part of a chain along the coast of the Kingdom of Valencia: they signalled to one another with smoke and fire when pirates approached. The council dates it to the fourteenth to sixteenth centuries. It is round, about nine metres across, much altered over time and restored in the twentieth century. In 1985 it was protected as cultural heritage.
Today it stands in a park and viewpoint of around 23,000 square metres, on one of the highest spots in the municipality. On a clear day you can see the coast towards La Mata and Guardamar, the island of Tabarca and, to the south, the Mar Menor.
Our tip: come late
This is a lovely place for the end of the day. There is little shade, so it gets hot around midday. Bring water.
Climbing it
The council's site does not say if you can go inside the tower. Come mainly for the view all around.
Add a beach stop
Playa de la Mata is close to Cabo Cervera, so you can pair the view with a swim.
