Almoradí is a real Spanish town in the Vega Baja, known for its artichokes and its earthquake museum. It is about a 20 minute drive from Lago Rosa Apartment.
Come here for an ordinary Spanish morning. You walk across Plaza de la Constitución, past the 19th century Casino and the Iglesia de San Andrés, and you see a Vega Baja town running at its own pace.
The Museo del Terremoto is the place to go inside. Almoradí has been hit by earthquakes several times over the years, and this museum shows what that meant for the town. Next to the old hospital is the Teatro Cortés, in a restored small chapel, used for cultural events.
Outside the centre you reach the Azud de Alfeitamí, a weir on the Segura from the late 16th century and part of the Ruta del Agua, a route along the old water works. Walkers will also find a fine stretch of nature at Hoyo Serrano.
At the table, it is all about the artichoke, the alcachofa, the town's best-known product. In this part of the Vega Baja, also try pava borracha, a regional turkey dish.
Saturday market
