Mar Menor Golf is an 18-hole course (par 72) from 2005 in Torre Pacheco, with nine holes by Dave Thomas and nine by Nicklaus Design. It is about a 30 minute drive from Lago Rosa Apartment.
Two designers on one card, and you feel it during the round. The front nine by Dave Thomas has narrow fairways and roughs, with generous greens protected by bunkers and lakes. The back nine by Nicklaus Design is wider, with large fairways and roomy roughs. So you need to be accurate on the way out, and then get more room to swing.
The highlight is the lake around the 13th, 14th and 15th, which the regional tourist board calls one of the biggest water hazards in Murcia. From the whites the course measures 6,153 metres. It suits a four-ball that likes variety, and anyone who wants to start afresh on the 10th.
Practice
Driving range, chipping green, two putting greens and a bunker area. A practice hole is for groups with a pro only.
Hire and food
Buggies are for hire and there is a restaurant. The resort also has a spa. See ugolfiberia.com, the group the course falls under.
Our tip
From this corner Cartagena pairs well, with the Roman theatre as the highlight and Calle Mayor for shopping.
