Serena Golf, also known as La Serena, is an 18-hole course (par 72) by Ryder Cup player Manuel Piñero in Los Alcázares on the Mar Menor. It is about a 30 minute drive from Lago Rosa Apartment.
Wind and water make the game here. The course lies close to the Mar Menor, and the levante, the easterly wind, can have a real say. Add big lakes that are in view on almost every hole, and nearly 70 bunkers. Manuel Piñero laid out rolling fairways between palms and olive trees, on gentle hills with desert-like patches in between.
From the white tee it measures 6,168 metres. On a properly windy day, take your handicap with a pinch of salt and just enjoy it.
Practice
The driving range has 25 bays, 8 of them covered, with practice greens and a large approach area. Buggies and electric trolleys are for hire. See serenagolf.com.
On the terrace
The Torre del Rame restaurant has a large terrace. According to the regional tourist board it looks out over the Mar Menor.
Combine with
Los Alcázares is on the shore of the Mar Menor, so you can still head to the water after your round.
