Villajoyosa is a seaside town with colourful fishermen's houses along the beach and a long chocolate tradition. It is about 1 hour 15 minutes by car from Lago Rosa Apartment.
You may already know the photo: rows of brightly painted fishermen's houses by the sea. In the local language the town is La Vila Joiosa, and the old centre runs down to that promenade, with the Iglesia de la Asunción built into the Renaissance walls. The beach has a good atmosphere and there are plenty of restaurants.
Chocolate is serious business here. The Museu Valencià del Xocolate tells the story of the tradition, and the Valor chocolate museum on Avenida Pianista Gonzalo Soriano ends in the shop with a tasting. Check current times on the museum's website. Vilamuseu, the town museum, is the place for local history.
Further along the coast stand the Torre del Charco on a cliff and the Torre de Hércules, one of the most notable Roman funerary monuments in Spain. For sand, choose from Playa de Torres, El Charco, La Caleta and El Paraíso.
A good mix of active and relaxed: into the sea in the morning, on to the promenade afterwards.
