Benidorm is the best-known resort on the Costa Blanca, with two long beaches, high-rise buildings and a nature park next door. It is about 1 hour 25 minutes by car from Lago Rosa Apartment.
Even if high-rise is not your thing, go and take a look, because the setting is remarkable. On the rock between the two beaches is the Balcón del Mediterráneo, the lookout near the site of a 14th century castle. This is where you take the photo of the island offshore. Behind it starts the small old centre, with the Iglesia de San Jaime Apóstol.
The beaches lie on either side. Playa de Levante is large, with parasol hire and plenty going on. Playa de Poniente has kilometres of fine sand and access for people with limited mobility. Among the rocks you will also find the small Playa del Mal Pas.
For something other than sand, the Serra Gelada lies on the northern side, a nature park with walking routes and a cycling route over the mountain roads. You walk high above the sea here, far from the bustle below. Thanks to the local microclimate the beach season runs months longer than you might expect, so winter visitors can make use of it too.
