- Town
Pilar de la Horadada is the southernmost municipality in the province of Alicante, with an inland town and five kilometres of coast. It is about a 15 minute drive from Lago Rosa Apartment.
The town itself centres on the church tower of Nuestra Señora del Pilar. The church has been rebuilt several times, but it kept its neo-Mudejar style. This is mainly a place where you shop or have coffee among people from the area, and that is exactly the reason to stop by.
By the sea there are five kilometres of varied beaches. Playa Las Higuericas and Playa de los Jesuitas have fine white sand, while El Conde and Rocamar are bays with golden sand. The watchtower at Torre de la Horadada, built against pirate raids and now protected heritage, stands on the beach and gives the district its name.
For a proper walk, drive inland to the Sierra de Escalona and Dehesa de Campoamor, a protected area with adapted paths, birds of prey and fossils. Back at the table, try the regional cooking: guiso de pelotas or rabbit with ajo cabañil.
