Calle de las Setas is a pedestrian street in the centre of Alicante full of huge colourful mushrooms, and it is about a 55 minute drive from Lago Rosa Apartment.
Officially this is Calle San Francisco, but everyone knows it as mushroom street. It runs between the Portal de Elche and Plaza de Calvo Sotelo, and you suddenly find yourself among giant mushrooms and colourful insects. Children will want to be everywhere at once, and it is also simply a fun place for a photo.
It used to be an ordinary street. According to the local press it became popular after the change around 2013, and these days it is mostly bars and restaurants with terraces under the caps. That makes it good for a quick stop, particularly as you walk through town from the Portal de Elche to the harbour.
You do not need long here. It is mainly a place to look, laugh and have a drink.
Our tip: with children
This is the best quarter of an hour of the day if you are in Alicante with children. Let them count the insects while you drink your coffee.
Fitting it in
Start at the castle or the boulevard and walk here for lunch. Barrio Santa Cruz is on the other side of the centre, below the castle.
Parking
In the centre your car is easiest in a multi-storey car park. Then just walk.
