Dénia: castle, Montgó and red prawns
- Driving time

- Marina Alta
- Town
Dénia is a harbour town below Montgó mountain, with a castle in the middle of town and the title of UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy. It is about 1 hour 55 minutes by car from Lago Rosa Apartment.
Food is the first reason to drive this far. UNESCO named Dénia a Creative City of Gastronomy, and the cooking brings together the sea and the Valencian huerta. Red prawn is the dish everyone talks about, so save your appetite for lunch.
Before that, walk up to the castle, an Islamic-era fortress on a low hill in the middle of town, with views over the sea from its highest point. The Museo Arqueológico de la Ciudad de Dénia is part of the complex. Below lies Baix la Mar, the old fishing quarter with its colourful houses, which has kept its past well.
After lunch you can head for the Parque Natural del Montgó, the mountain rising above the coast. You can walk to the summit, but expect a serious hike and bring plenty of water.
Markets
On Monday morning on Calle Hermanos Maristas, on Friday morning on Calle de La Vía.
Sunday
The flea market at Mercat de l'Autocine, except in summer, and the Jesús Pobre market in the village of that name, about 10 kilometres away.
Combining
Xàbia is on the other side of Montgó, so the two fit together in a day trip.
