Alcoy is an old industrial town among the mountains, known for its bridges, modernist facades and the Moros y Cristianos. It is about 1 hour 30 minutes by car from Lago Rosa Apartment.
This is a very different Spain from the coast. The town sits between ravines and is known for its bridges, such as the Puente de Sant Jordi. Alcoy led the way in the Industrial Revolution, which left a rich built heritage: the Casa del Pavo, the Círculo Industrial, the Casa de Escaló and several factories are on the European Route of Modernism.
The festival the town is known for is Moros y Cristianos, around Sant Jordi's day, three days of parades recognised as being of International Tourist Interest. If you are here on another day, the Museu Alcoià de la Festa still gives you a look behind the scenes.
There are plenty of other museums too: the Camilo Visedo Moltó archaeological museum, the Isurus palaeontology collection, an IVAM branch and a museum about stuffed anchovy olives. You can also visit the old air-raid shelters. For fresh air, go to the Parque Natural del Carrascal de la Font Roja, with trails, old farmhouses and the summit of the Menejador.

This 10 kilometre route through pine forest and over viaducts can be done on foot, by bike or by wheelchair.
